What Should Be Normal GFR Level?

default
Posted on Fri, 1 Aug 2014
Question: I just received lab results from a recent physical exam. Most of my results are within normal range. However, my GFR estimate is low: 56.92. My Internist states that this is o.k for a white female of my age - 52 years. Yet, what I am reading on-line indicates that I should probably be monitored. The other indicators of kidney disease do not seem to be present. My blood pressure was 125 over 60. My non-fasting blood glucose level was 70 (I do have low blood sugar symptoms when I haven't eaten for a while or I ate a sweet dessert the previous evening. I am on no medication.) I have no protein in my urine. etc. The only other test that was out of normal range was my vitamin D level which is: 25.7 for which my internist suggested I take a vitamin D supplement. Still, I am concerned about seeing a e GFR result described as 'Moderate stage of CKD'. Should I be?

Brief Answer:
Not a concern to worry much..

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Welcome to Healthcare Magic,

e GFR is an estimated glomerular filteation rate which is not real GFR , and is calculated through serum creatinine , body wt, age , sex by a equation.
Normal reference value for most of the labs is Greater than or equal to 60. in your case its almost the same value exept few points.
I will take it as normal kidney function only because , it may be an laboratory calculation error. More over as you dont have any risk factors which influence the kidney function... I can conclude that its not a concern to worry much.
