default
Posted on Mon, 17 Nov 2014
Question: If the right varicocele is okay and the left varicocele is bad, can't the right one help in sperm production? Do the two sides of varicocele have to be okay before sperm can be produced? Can malfunction of one of the varicoceles lead to zero sperm?

Brief Answer:
Not Zero count but abnormal quality is also reason

Detailed Answer:
Hi dear.Welcome and thanks for giving me an opportunity to address your query.

Varicocele is among the most common causes of male infertility. In healthy males, the scrotal temperature is 2 °C lower than the core body temperature.Due to varicocele (dilated veins with increased blood flow) the testicular temperature becomes identical to the core body temperature which is(predominant reason) associated with a decrease in not only the sperm count and but also sperm quality(DNA damage due thermal injury). Thus even though varicocele is on your left side this is sufficient to raise the scrotal temperature and qualifies for surgery depending on the grade(size of the veins).

Hope this answers you query.
