Thyroid disorders, Diabetes, Colon cancer, colon stricture, polyps, medications like pain medications (narcotics), blood pressure medications (calcium channel blockers), anti-seizure medication, and antispasmodics and some other causes.
Particularly, in people above 50 years, serious causes like colon cancer needs to be ruled out.
Is there anything more powerful than than an enema in dealing with this problem
No, there is no such powerful technique but the cause of such constipation needs to be addressed. Dietary modifications are also needed.
