What Does This Transvaginal Ultrasound Report Indicate?

default
Posted on Thu, 16 Jun 2016
Question: I am 71 post menopausal bleeding for 3 weeks/ Transvaginal Ultrasound shows uterus appears normal measures 10.1x5.8x6.2cm the endometrial stripe measures 46 mm. This seems unusually thick from all I have read. Virtol canal is diffusely heterogeneous, thickened and increased in vascuclarity. The report says ovaries were not visualized which is odd as I watched them being scoped so I don't understand this. Impression Markedly thickened endometrial canal at 46mm with increased vascularity. My doctor and the radiologist were not available to discuss this with me today and after bleeding for 3 weeks I am quite anxious. Thank you.

Brief Answer:
Endometrial malignancy needs to be ruled out after a biopsy.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for trusting us with your health concern.
The excessive thickness of the endometrium is the cause of bleeding that you are having. This can be associated with endometrial polyps also. It is best to get an endometrial biopsy done to rule out an endometrial malignancy as the vascularity is increased. The ovaries may be hidden by the bowel gases. So it is not a worrisome finding.
