Brief Answer:
There is severe compression of nerves at two levels in the lower back.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thank you for posting your query.

I am Dr Sudhir Kumar, Neurologist, and would try my best to help you.

I have noted the clinical details and MRI reports of your mother in law. As per that, there is severe compression of nerves at the lower back at two levels (L4-5 and L5-S1). She may eventually require surgery for good and permanent relief from her symptoms. Surgery is safe at the age of 56 years.

For the time being, medications such as gabapentin or pregabalin capsules may be used. Bed rest is also advised. If these do not help, surgery may be needed.

I sincerely hope my reply has helped you.

I would be pleased to answer, if you have any follow up queries or if you require any further information.

Brief Answer:
Surgery is safe and complications are rare.

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for getting back.

Surgery for lumbar disc is very safe. The chances for success are high (more than 95%). At XXXXXXX you can get her operated at Apollo Hospital, Sir XXXXXXX Rm Hospital or Medanta (Gurugram). You should consult the Neurosurgeon there (I do not know any one specific doctor).

Best wishes,

Dr Sudhir Kumar MD DM (Neurology)
