Question: Hi Doctor,

I have just found out below abnormalities on my chest x-ray when i went through it due to immigration purposes:
1. Evidence of tuberculosis- Present- Minimal Density seen in Lt. apex.
2. Lung Fields- Abnormal- Minimal Density seen in Lt. apex.

After that i went through a CT scan which showed below results:

1. Mild subpleural fibrotic opacities seen in apical segments of bilateral upper lobes
2. No active lung parenchymal infection seen

After that i went through 3 X sputum tests and the result was NEGATIVE in all of the reports.

After that i went through QUANTIFERON TB GOLD test which was also NEGATIVE.

Could you please let me know what above means?

Thanks,
doctor

Brief Answer:
This means you are not having active tub or other lung infection.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your follow up question on Healthcare Magic.
I can understand your concern.
Your all reports are suggestive that you are not having active tuberculosis or other lung infection.
Your chest x ray and CT scan are showing old scarred lesions.
But for immigration purpose, they might ask for bronchoscopy and XXXXXXX (bronchoalveolar lavage) analysis.
If you are lucky than you can get clearance from medical board even without bronchoscopy.
But some board members may ask for more confirmation by bronchoscopy and XXXXXXX analysis.
Hope I have solved your query.
I will be happy to help you further.
Wish you good health. Thanks.

Brief Answer:
It suggests possibility of previous lung insult.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your follow up question on Healthcare Magic.
I can understand your concern.
These scarred lesions can be due to
1. Previous tuberculosis
2. Previous pneumonia
3. Pollution exposure
4. Previous blunt chest trauma etc.
So it is not always due to previous tuberculosis. Above mentioned other causes can produce these scarred lesions.
Hope I have solved your query.

As all the test results are negative(Quantiferron TB Gold, AFB Sputum tests)

Is bronchoscopy and XXXXXXX (bronchoalveolar lavage) analysis going to be negative as well?

Also how long it takes for the results to come out for bronchoscopy and XXXXXXX (bronchoalveolar lavage) analysis

Thanks,
doctor

Brief Answer:
Yes, they will mostly come negative for tuberculosis.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your follow up question on Healthcare Magic.
I can understand your concern.
Yes, bronchoscopy and XXXXXXX analysis will mostly come negative for tuberculosis.
And it will take 1 week for the results.
If you are lucky enough then they might not ask for bronchoscopy and XXXXXXX analysis.
Don't worry, even if you go for bronchoscopy, it will come negative only.
Hope I have solved your query.
