Hi
welcome to healthcare and thanks for putting up the query
as per your complaints, your friend is probably having an inner ear disease.
To diagnose it,examination and few investigations are done. Please tell me what all investigations u have got done and if possible send me the reports.
Best is to get the patient examined by a vertigo expert or an ENT specialist.
I need to know few things like is there any history of trauma or loud sound exposure or chronic drug use..any hearing loss?
Tell me so that i can suggest you better..
Any further queries are always welcome.

she has seen an ENT who did a test that showed her Eustachian tube is not blocked. Also they did an MRI with negative results, no problems found, normal MRI. She had hearing loss in the other ear many years ago, which is still an issue. These current symptoms are on one side only. The ENT is an advanced specialist. Years ago she was exposed to loud sounds, which is why her other ear has partial hearing. This ear was fine until a few months ago. The ENT said her symptoms are on one side only. No other trauma or drug abuse, although there was a loud plane ride when the current symptoms started. She complains of pressure, pain, and only some dizziness. Resting helps. Driving bothers here ear. She says it's sometimes hard to concentrate with the symptoms active. She has acute tinnitus much of the time. I have no access to her tests.

Brief Answer:
Inner ear disease

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for all the details.
According to my clinical experience, she is having nerve loss in both ears..get a fresh audiometry done..for tinnitus, if there is no eustachian tube dysfunction, i usually prescribe cinnarizine tablets twice daily alongwith vitamin b12 1500 micrograms once daily..all medicines are available only on prescription
This is given for atleast 3 months..results come with compliance..
If there is no response, other options are available..
One more thing, if there is hearing loss, using hearing aids helps to decrease tinnitus to a great extent.
Any further questions are always welcome.
Wishing a speedy recovery for your friend
take care

The hearing loss in her right ear happened many years ago when she worked near a noisy machine on that one side of her. It took a while for her to notice the injury only after she left that job. There has been no recent change. There is no tinnitus on that side.

The left ear issue was sudden onset about three months ago during a jet plane trip where she was seated near the engine. The tinnitus and "mimicked but not actually" plugged Eustachian tube, and dizziness seem to come from the left side only. She tested negative for a blocked Eustachian tube. Again, the MRI was normal. She will follow up with the ENT at some point. This ENT handles tough cases referred by other ENT's, and by internists.

I know one must manage one's own care as much as possible, and be proactive. I hope this clarifies. Any other treatment or testing suggestions? We appreciate all your help.

Brief Answer:
Tinnitus with dizziness

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for the follow up query
There are some diseases which have triad of dizziness, tinnitus and hearing loss. For this audiometry and MRI for inner ear to see any hydrops is done. A normal head MRI doesn't show this.
Please tell me what medicines are you taking.
My advise is you should get a fresh audiometry done and send me the report.
I hope my advise helps you.
Thanks and regards
