Question: What is the normal size of the thyroid? On the right side according to ultra sound finds I have 6.5 x 2.8 x 2.5 cm calcifications nodules in the mid pole. On the left, 2.0 x 1.0 x 1.2 CM cystic nodule in the posterior aspect of the inferior left thyroid lobe. What does this mean is this large?

Brief Answer:
Thyroid

Detailed Answer:
it is quite likely you have made an inadvertent typographical error in mentioning the size of the nodules on the right side. That is probably the size of the entire right lobe. However if you are certain those are the correct figures for the nodule then it is quite concerning indeed especially with the calcifications. The left lobe has a nodule too. Fine needle aspiration biopsy is one option but this decision making requires a detailed assessment such as a thorough physical examination

What is thyromegaly? Could the use of a medication cause nodules Trulicity

Could this be malignant? I am having trouble swallowing, choke easily, voice sounds raspy almost hoarse and difficulty breathing especially while trying to sleep. I get choked in my sleep. What is medullary thyroid carcinoma? Should thyroid be removed all together?

The file uploaded for your review should I be alarmed by this or is this a side effect from taking trulicity and should it be discontinued?

Detailed Answer:
Now the numbers are correct.

I have reviewed the attached report too.

Thyromegaly means an enlarged thyroid.

The normal thyroid size is about 4 cm by (1.5-2 cm) by (2-4 cm).

Trulicity (Dulaglutide), Bydureon and Victoza carry a [US Boxed Warning]: Thyroid C-cell tumors have developed in animal studies with glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonists; it is not known if dulaglutide causes thyroid C-cell tumor, including medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC) in humans. Routine monitoring of serum calcitonin or using thyroid ultrasound monitoring is of uncertain value for early detection of MTC in patients treated with dulaglutide. Patients should be counseled on the potential risk of MTC with the use of dulaglutide and informed of symptoms of thyroid tumors (eg, neck mass, dysphagia, dyspnea, persistent hoarseness). Use is contraindicated in patients with a personal or a family history of MTC and in patients with multiple endocrine neoplasia syndrome type 2 (MEN2). Cases of MTC in humans have been reported in patients treated with the GLP-1 receptor agonist liraglutide (VICTOZA). Consultation with an endocrinologist is recommended in patients with thyroid nodules on physical examination or neck imaging and in patients who develop elevated calcitonin concentrations.

So you see, it is important you consult your endocrinologist promptly. Call the office and ask for advice as to the next step.
