Posted on Fri, 10 Oct 2014
Question: I recently had my thryoid checked bc I had been experiencing extreme hungry and thirst. Results show that it is a 3.7, back in XXXXXXX it was 2.4. the doctor doesnt think this is any cause for concern. Meanwhile, I continue to have the same symptoms. I pushed back and she put me on 25 mg of a thryoid medication. Should I take it?

Brief Answer:
Your TSH is in normal range.

Detailed Answer:
Hello!

Welcome to HealthcareMagic!

In evaluation thyroid function is necessary to take in consideration 3 parameters :
-Free T3
-Free T4
-TSH.

If the value of 3.7 is your TSH ,it is not considered high.
The generally accepted reference range for normal serum TSH is 0.40-4.2 mIU/L.
In your case FreeT3 and FreeT4 should be evaluated.
If these hormones are in normal range then this means that your symptoms aren't caused from thyroid disorders and you don't need to take the medication.

I would suggest to measure TSH again after 2-3 months.
-You also should test your fasting blood sugar because Diabetes Mellitus can cause symptoms like extreme hungry and thirst.

Hope it was of help.
Let me know if you have other questions or doubt to clarify.I will be happy to assist you further.
