What Does My USG Test Report Indicate?

default
Posted on Thu, 29 Sep 2016
Question: Hi doctor,

My wife is pregnant. As per the scan which is done yesterday it's 11 weeks. So in another 7 days that is by 15th September 3rd month will be completed.

15th October - 4th month
15th November - 5th month
15th December - 6th month
15th January - 7th month
15th February - 8th month
15th March - 9th month

so ideally, the date of the delivery should in March...but why report is saying April and doctor also confirmed 15th April.. can you please clarify?

Brief Answer:
if LMP is 15th XXXXXXX Due date will be 22nd March, as per USG 29/31 March.

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Dear XXXXXXX
Dr. Purushottam welcomes you to HCM virtual clinic!
Thanks for consulting at my virtual clinic. I have carefully gone through your query, and I think I have understood your concern. I will try to address your medical concerns and would suggest you the best of the available treatment options.

1.First of all do not panic.

2. let's do some obstetric calculations.

From your history it appears that her LMP ( last menstrual period date ) was on 15th XXXXXXX 2016.
Accordingly, on 7th September she should be
12 weeks by first date of LMP.

As USG is showing growth of 11 weeks, it can be due to delayed ovulation and conception.
So as per LMP her expected due date will be 22nd March.
But as per baby size and growth 7 to 10 days later, means 29 to 31st march.

I would like to know if there is any difference in dates in my calculations.

3. As such if baby delivers between 37 to 40 weeks of pregnancy it is called as at term delivery and there is usually no risk of prematurity.

I hope this answer was helpful to you!
Please kindly rate it as helpful and write a short review about your experience with me! I would appreciate that a lot.
Thank you and best regards!

Brief Answer:
Consider 2 possibilities.Focus on Screening, anomaly USG and mother's care.

Detailed Answer:
Hi there,
Thanks for appreciating the answer and reverting back.

1. I have gone through the USG report.
LMP on the report is written as 08/07/2016.
USG scan for dating is accurate till 12 weeks than any other scans during pregnancy.

2. As discussed earlier, from LMP of 08/07/16; her EDD ( expected due date) comes as 14/04/2017.

But USG shows that on 06/09/2016. by LPM pregnancy of 8.5 weeks and actual size 11.6 weeks.

3. There are few possibilities-
a) wrong date of LMP
b) previous cycle in the month of XXXXXXX on 15th or 16th of XXXXXXX and she had some bleeding on 8th July; that was reported as LMP.

4. In any case , most important thing is baby and mother should undergo genetic screening blood tests - Double marker and Triple marker tests at 13 and 18 weeks respectively.

Baby's USG for anomaly scan should be done at 18 weeks .

These things should be focussed more now onwards.

Your treating doctor will help you guide for the same.

5. Mother should be on folic acid , vitamin b 12 and omega 3 food supplements now onwards. Please seek prescription support of your doctor for the same.
I usually advise to my pregnant patients as follows-
--Indulging in a healthy diet and regular exercise regime.
Include plenty of fruits, salads, vegetables in the diet.
Have adequate water intake; say 8 – 10 glasses per day.
Avoid deep fried foods, bakery products, and refined sugars.
Be cool, remain happy.
Think positive.
Meditate regularly.

I hope this answer helps you.
May GOD bless you with a bundle of JOY!

Thanks

Yes doctor she had very minor bleeding in July..
After my wife did not get period in august she did pregnancy test and result showed positive and we thought its one month

But we did scan ( not the report attached) , report showed 9 weeks. When the doctor asked how about period in july..then my wife said on first day she has very less bleeding like it usually happens for 5th day.

Brief Answer:
It can be implantation bleeding. Now let's focus on pregnancy

Detailed Answer:
Hi there,

with this history, now the things are more clear.
The very minor bleeding in the month of July can be implantation bleeding, may be that was considered as LMP.
hsi can happen in some women and it is in no way harmful to baby.

Any way , let's have no confusion on the LMP and EDD.
Consider 14/15 XXXXXXX as LMP, calculate months from that date.
EDD will be 22/23 March 2017.

I will suggest that now both of you focus on 3 aspects-
1) Baby's growth.
2) genetic screening
3) Anomaly scan

I hope this answer helps you.
Please rate the answer, and write a few words how this answer helped you.
Thanks.
