Question: I just had an MRI on my left knee and it showed fluid in there, my question is does doctors typically drain the fluid? I was told to try Physical Therapy I cannot see where that would get fluid out.
Thank You,

Brief Answer:
Physical therapy will help in decreasing inflammation.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
The presence of a mild amount of fluid in the knee joint is suggestive of an inflammation of the knee. Doing rest, pain killers and a regular hot compress along with mild exercise after the pain subsides helps in decreasing the inflammation and the fluid in the joint is reabsorbed. If there is a large amount of blood in the knee or it collects due to an injury or there is a repeat collection of fluid inside the knee then it is drained with the help of a needle.
In your case it might be a small fluid collection that is likely to resolve on its own once the inflammation subsides and the knee joint resumes its normal activity.
I hope this answers your query.
