Posted on Mon, 14 Sep 2015
Question: I am a 37 year old female, 5'8", ok overall health but suffer migraines often and conducted a brain MRI to see what is the reason for it. The report says: "right temporal lobe subcortical non specific bright T2 signal focus, ? ischemic, for clinical correlation. what does that means?
MRI Findings: A fairly defines small 6mm area of bright T2 and FLAIR signal intensity is seen at the right anterior love, subcortical in location. No surrounding edema or mass effect observed. The rest of the brain parenchyma shows normal signal intensity pattern.

Brief Answer:
MRI report and pictures needed, if possible.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thanks for using HCM.

I have read your question and understand your concerns.

I need to ask some questions about MRI findings:

- MRI was done with contrast (gadolinium) or without?

- Is it possible that you can take a screenshot or a picture of the MRI and upload it?

In my opinion, that lesion found in MRI is an incidental finding not related to migraine headaches.

It may be brain tissue displasia, enlarger perivascular space, but gadolinium enhanced MRI is needed to have a better understanding.

Also, I need to see some pictures if it is possible, to have a more correct opinion.

Awaiting for more information.....

Brief Answer:
MRI report almost normal.

Detailed Answer:
Welcome back and thanks for uploading MRI report.

Displasia, enlarged perivascular ( around the blood vessels ) spaces, are common nonspecific abnormal findings in MRI studies, that are not related to any neurologic symptoms, or neurologic disease.

In other words, they are incidental MRI findings that are abnormal only by imaging studies terms, not clinically.

In conclusion, MRI done to evaluate any brain organic cause of the migraines, or headaches, didn't found anything that can be related to neurologic conditions., but found something nonspecific in imaging terms, that can't be translated in neurologic symptoms or condition.

Let's say your brain MRI results were approximately normal.

I recommend control of migraine headaches by crisis treatment, or preventive treatment if headaches occur more than 3 times a month, and periodically MRI evaluation about "abnormal" MRI findings once per year.

Hope I helped you.

Take care.
