Brief Answer:
There is no cause for concern
Detailed Answer:
Hi
Welcome to Healthcare-Magic
Greetings of the day
Dear Mr XXXXXXX
First and foremost let me reassure you, there is no cause for concern. Low lying placenta is seen in 10-20 percent of normal
pregnancy and 99% of the placenta migrates upwards.
The final normal location of placenta is in upper segment of the
Uterus, sometimes it may get implanted in the lower segment. When the fetus and Uterus grows in size it will normally ascend upwards. If the distance of Placenta is more than 2 cm from the internal os( upper end of
cervix) then there is no cause for concern. ( Do ask for this measurment in your next follow up scan, Most likely it would have ascended up). The only precaution which needs to be taken is avoid excessive travelling especially road travel in autorikshaw and buses. Ensuring adequate rest and sleeping in left lateral position will be helpful.
USEDC means
Ultrasound Estimated date of delivery.
Cervix is the length of cervical canal, which is adequate and which will form the lower Uterine segment in later months.
I would suggest the following
1. Get Ultrasound scan to rule out fetal anamoly( Also known as anamoly scan) at 20 weeks.
2. Placental position can be reassessed in that scan.
Being Pediatric Surgeon, I am actively involved in antenatal
counselling . I have seen many patients with early pregnancy scan report revealing low lying placenta, In all the cases it has ascended upwards after 20-24 weeks. Its from the experience with patients also my personal experience( My wife too had low lying placenta, she delivered an XXXXXXX in January this year).
Ensure that your wife receives Iron, Calcium, Multi-Vitamin supplements, Plenty of oral fluids and well balanced diet.
