What Does "increased Resistance In Both Uterine Arteries" Mean?
Question: Hi ...i am 19 weeks pregnant. Today i had my Anomaly scan and Uterine Doppler scan
Anomaly scan was normal with the baby measuring 15.4 cms and 330 grams, but the uterine doppler scan showed increased resistance in both uterine arteries average PI was 2.6
i have been asked to redo the Doppler Scan after 3 weeks again
This is my first pregnancy. My report says screened positive for preeclampsia. i dont have any other adverse or alarming symptoms. Blood pressure is also normal 110/70
i have my gyno appointment tomorrow but i am really worried about what this means?
is it something to worry about or will resolve with medication. There is no history of preeclampsia in my family

- weight is on lower side as at this gestation it should be between 400-500 grams.
- the deranged uterine artery Doppler at this gestation is suggestive of risk of pre-eclamsia and low birth weight baby in advanced pregnancy.
All these problems are only probable and are just predicted and not conclusive of anything as of now.
It can progress or at times come down to normal.
So as of now there is not much to worry and follow certain instructions like -
- rest in left lateral position.
- take calcium in prescribed doses daily
- regular blood pressure check up
- adequate rest of 8 hours at night and 2 hours in day.
- regular antenatal visit to your doctor.

Will any medication given by doctor help to normalise it?

Cause of this is largely unknown specially in patients with normal development of fetal parts.

My Gyno gave me Ecosprin 75 today for 6 weeks and has asked to repeat the scan at 26 weeks (6 weeks later)
What she was also surprised at was the fact that my PI in the 12 weeks scan was 1.3 and usually this gets detected in the 12 week scan.
She has said to get my BP monitored every week and that they will monitor me closely for the next 6-8 weeks.
Today my BP was 130/80.
Please let me know if this BP is a concern. My Gyno said there is nothing to worry about, it shouldnt go to 140
