What Does Heart Rate Of 50 While On Labetalol For PVCs Indicate?

default
Posted on Mon, 6 Jul 2015
Question: I have been having episodes of bradycardia the past week. I take labetalol 50 mg bid but have for over two years now. all my other meds are the same and I have been on them for almost a year now. so no recent med changes. I take the labetalol for pvcs, which I feel and causes me great distress. My heart rate has been mid to low 50's during rest today and was a few days last week. The past 3 days however my heart rate was in the upper 60's at rest. what could be causing this? I am very worried but cant get into cardio until next friday. I held my labetalol this morning due to the low resting heart rate. I had a sinus infection last monday but has since resolved. I am a 28 year old female.

Hi and thank you for asking!
I read your query and understood your concerns.

Your resting heart is within the accepted limits and you shouldn't worry about the fact that your HR is around 50-55 bpm.

However if you were my patient I would recommend to do the following examinationsto exclude any cardiac issue:
- blood work including thyroid hormone levels
- ecg
- cardiac echo
- holter monitoring
- Stress test

Hope this was of help!
Wish you health!

Detailed Answer:
Hi back,

You shouldn't be worried about myocarditis, because your echo was normal and this finding definitely exclude myocarditis. My advice is to stay relaxed because you have a normal heart as long as your examinations were fine.

Wish you health!
