Brief Answer:
Report findings explained below

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX
Thanks for writing in to us.

I have read through your query in detail. The area of doubt is in the measurement of the heart chambers. The right and left ventricles in your baby measure LV (left ventricle) 1.2 cms and RV (right ventricle) 0.7 cms. The LV/ RV ratio at near term (34 weeks) is expected to be about 0.9 in most cases but in your baby it is 1.2/ 0.7 = 1.714 which is much higher than normal. However the septum (wall) between ventricles is intact in the report.

Going by above measurements the LV is larger than expected (dilated) and RV is smaller than it should be for the age. This is the reason the baby needs an echocardiography just after birth and its better if you can consult a pediatric cardiologist at the same time. This is to confirm the blood flow parameters in the babys heart.

Rest of the findings in the report including heart rate, blood flow and baby weight are within normal range for age.

Hope your query is answered.
Do write back if you have any doubts.

Brief Answer:
Risk assessment to be done after birth

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX
Thanks for writing back with an update.

Right now the baby is having the fetal circulation cycle of blood flow. After birth this changes to the adult circulation. The baby is fine as long as it is inside the mother but once after birth the actual pumping activity and blood flow characteristics through heart and great vessels will be known. Doing an echocardiography at that time will tell us if there is any abnormality in blood flow pattern due to structural defects as left ventricular dilatation and and narrowing of the aorta. These changes are not present in every baby with abnormal heart measurements. Even if certain abnormalities are present, they can be corrected with modern day treatments and care.

Hope your query is answered.
