Posted on Fri, 13 Feb 2015
Question: I still have a slight clear discharge from my penis after 5 days of visiting the doctor. They covered Trich with Metronizadole 2 grams and they covered Gonorrhea and chlamydia with 1 gram of zithromax and 250 mg of Rocephin. What do I do next ? Also, my test results from the Lab came back neg for gonorrhea and chlamydia

Brief Answer:
Change of antibiotics, partner treatment, if not settled within a week.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome to HCM.

Thanks for posting your query.

You had covered almost all discharge producing STI conditions and had been treated with appropriate anti-microbials in adequate dosages.
Possibilities for the persistence of slight clear urethral discharge are:

1. In some individuals it may take some more time for complete healing of the urethral inflammation following the treatment. It will settle spontaneously within few days as you had mentioned that now it is slight and clear and not pus like (purulent).
2. Resistance of the organisms to those antibiotics. If it is not getting settled within another week time repeat the culture and sensitivity test for Gonorrhea and Trichomonas and get treated as per the out-come of the result.
3. Without the partner(s) getting treated don't resume your sexual activity.
4. As the discharge is clear, Gonorrhea is unlikely. Chlamydial and other non gonococcal urethritis, if not responded to single oral dose of Azithromycin (Metranidazole and Rocephin have no action over Chlamydia or ureaplasma or Mycoplasma), You can try with a course of Doxycyclin for 2-3 weeks as per the guidance of your physician, if it has not settled after a week.
