What Does Blurred Vision After Cataract Surgery Indicate?

default
Posted on Mon, 14 Sep 2015
Question: Person (68 years, Female) was having cataract since a long time (more than 4 years). Cataract surgery was performed 3 days back for right eye. Still, there is no vision improvement. According to her, it's exactly the same blur level in vision as it was before surgery. She had gone through cataract surgery for left eye 9 years back. It took just one hour to get back her vision. She is very depressed and so are we. Is there any scary news ahead?

She was feeling very cold inside theatre and had to put on Anesthesia LA. The full patch with cotton got removed on next day visit. Doctor/nurse did not alarm about anything and told us to visit after 7 days as normal. We can see some differences in Visual Acuity in review reports before and after - before : Aided (Glasses), Distance 20/400, Near 6/12 ::: after: Unaided, Distance 20/50p, Near NA and PinHole, 20/30p.

Brief Answer:
Vision may be less because of inflammation/corneal edema and will improve.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Welcome to Health care Magic

I am Dr. Dadapeer an ophthalmologist and I will be answering your question.

I reviewed your history.

The poor vision or blurred vision following cataract surgery occurs initially in the immediate post operative period because of problems like inflammation induced by surgery, corneal edema...
All these are reversible conditions and vision should improve with treatment for these conditions in 1-2 weeks.

Since it is only three days post surgery, I think the causes can be treatable and hence no need to be worried.

Please mention the eye drops she is currently using so that I can advice you more accurately.

Hope this answers your question.

Thank you

Brief Answer:
The treatment is in right direction, no need to be worried.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thank you for the follow up question.

L.V XXXXXXX eye hospital is one of the reputed eye hospitals and no need to be worried as usually the quality of treatment will be good.

The drops prescribed are routinely used to prevent inflammation induced by surgery.

Hence I hope everything should be normal except for inflammation and this will be taken care by the Predforte eye drops.

Hence I advice you not to worry much and to continue treatment as advised and try to get appointment and visit your doctor after 2-3 days if there is no much improvement.

Hope this answers your question.

Thank you
