Posted on Wed, 22 Jul 2015
Question: Hello,

My name is XXXX XXXXXXX and my father (XXXX, age 59) is suffering from diabities since past 15 years and with BP since past 10 years or so. He neglected the disease in the first five years, and but after that he is following proper medication. He also developed issues with eyes and kidneys in last 3 years. Although he took medication for all the above mentioned issues, but never kept his diet maintained and mostly ate many food products which were not allowed. Recently he fainted due to low sugar level and was hospitalized and during all the checkups we came to know his Creatinine level was 7.9, Phosphorus level 6.3 mg/dL and Blood Urea 130 mg/dL.

After 3 three days of medication his creatinine level reduced to 5.7. We than consulted a Nephrologist who is currently monitoring my fathers case, he has recommended medicine to contain the problem, he also recommended some antibiotic to my father who had some swelling in his hand. Today we did a blood checkup and his creatinine level was found to be 8.5 and phosphorus level was 4.8 mg/dL. He is urinating well.
Doctor has told us today that my father has to start the process of dialysis in the upcoming month.
Now we are confused about all the medication we are undertaking and planning to visit XXXXXXX or other such metro city out of fear.

Please feel free to ask any query if you need to get more information about the case.

Brief Answer:
Acute on chronic kidney disease

Detailed Answer:
Hello

Thanks for the query

It looks like your father is suffering from chronic kidney disease most likely secondary to diabetes. Reversibility of the creatinine is doubtful as it has already been high previously. He is receiving the rignt treatment for it. In such cases where one has an infection I usually give antibiotics for 7 days and watch for improvement.

I also prescribe Nitrophage forte XXXXXXX three times a day with 20 ml of water before food. It comes down slightly. Please enquire with your doctor for the same

Please get back to me with any clarifications you might need, i will be happy to get you

Regards
