What Do These CT Scan Findings Indicate?

default
Posted on Fri, 15 Sep 2017
Question: I have a question about a CT result I had when I was in the er for a kidney stone, the attending Dr didn't mention a inlarged spleen and a induration/infiltration of the central messenteric fat (misty mesentary), also a inlarged lymph node. can u help me to understand the seriousness of this? the radiologists also recommend a follow up CT, I was not told about this either. I have been feeling pretty tired, and haven't had much of a appetite for a little over a week. other than that have been feeling fine. I can attach my CT result if needed.

Brief Answer:
Information requested on CT result and if any other tests performed already

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Thank you for asking at healthcaremagic.

I carefully read your question and understand your concern related to the result of the CT.
As i see the findings you had were incidental findings due to the CT examination done for another reason. It would be very helpful if i would be able to have the CT result sent to read myself if it is in English.
I don't see to be mentioned the size of the lymphnode and the location of it. What are the dimensions of the spleen?

The causes of the findings can vary in seriousness from a common self-limited viral infection that is nothing to worry, to important issues with the lymphnodes like limphoma that is less likely as it is very rare but needs investigations related to it and the detailed information on the questions above is very important.

Have you had any blood tests done especially CBC and ERS?
Do you have any other symptoms like weight loss, night sweats, other than the tiredness you have experienced last week?

Please feel free to give me more information on the above questions and upload any CT result or blood tests that might be in English so i can have more information on what is going on and be of a better help for you.

Kind regards,

Hello, thank you for your answer, I haven't had any night sweats that I know of, and as far as the weight loss I'm not sure either but I wouldn't be surprised if I did, my appetite has been very low, and when I do eat it feels like I get full after eating half the meal. I also have been having some pain in my upper left abdomen just below my rib. As far as the CBC or any other blood work it seems the hospital I went to did not do any of those tests, I remember them taking blood but they must have canceled the order as there is none in my medical records. As you noted the CT was performed on suspicion of a kidney stone, all other findings were incidental. the CT results are attached

Explanations given for the results

Detailed Answer:
Hello again,

Thank you for the uploads and extra information provided.

As for the lymphnode as the CT result reports it is in the upper limits of the norm. This means we have to monitor it but it is not necessarily abnormal or something to worry at the moment. The lypmphnodes at that area can be up to 1 cm and yours is 1 cm so an examination in a few weeks will tell us if it is there the same or has changed. I would guess if MRI or ultrasound would be a better examination to repeat as they do not have xray and will not cause you radiation.

The spleen: most of literature says the norm is around 12 cm but some say it can be up to 15 cm so it is still not that bad

The XXXXXXX mesentery has several causes, most are pathologies but also there is a classification as idipathic which means no identifiable cause.

I would say that you need to follow the instructions to repeat the test in a few weeks. Speak with your doctor if you can have a test that does not have radiation like ultrasound or MRI might be advisable.

I hope this is helpful to you and aswers to your questions but please let me know of any concerns related to this.

Kind regards
