What Diagnosis Or Tests Would You Recommend For The Following

default
Posted on Tue, 4 Jun 2019
Question: What diagnosis or tests would you recommend for the following symptoms:

- anxiety
- mild but extended panic attacks (20mins or so)
- depressive episodes that come and go
- raised body temperature and feeling like my brain is hot
- troubles sleeping (often combined with other symptoms)
- increased resting heart rate

Above symptoms can happen individually or jointly and always come on at random - usually daily.

Other times I feel amazing and I’m full of XXXXXXX confidence and energy.

There seems to be no pattern or ‘trigger’ to these symptoms.

I’ve had anxiety and mild depression for a couple months now, but the frequent panic attacks and ‘hot flashes’ are new additions.

Brief Answer:
These are symptoms of anxiety neurosis and depression

Detailed Answer:
Dear Friend.

You have been already diagnosed with anxiety and depression. The given symptoms too are corresponding to anxiety disorder and of course depression.

Please do not worry about your panic attacks and hot flashes. They are also part of anxiety disorder and depression. These symptoms occur because of the underlying anxiety factor. External Trigger may or may not be there. But internal trigger is always there.

Your anxiety and depression must have created a temporarily lasting mark on your unconscious mind which could create the internal fear which further cause the hot flashes and panic attacks.

Are you taking any medicines for anxiety and depression?
What is your heart rate ?

I suggest Cognitive Behavior Therapy and relaxation therapy for you to manage the problems.

I am sure you remember the first episode of your anxiety attack and what triggered it. Can you explain it for me ?

Take care

Thank you for the reply and information.

The fact these symptoms happen at random, would this not indicate a physical or chemical problem?

I was to understand anxiety or panic disorders are triggered by stress?

Yesterday I was relaxing and enjoying a massage, when suddenly panic and hot flash happened and lasted 20 minutes. Very hard to enjoy a massage when this happens!

The other day I woke up in the middle of the night because of panic and hot flash on my head/brain.

These are times I%E2%80%99m relaxed and it%E2%80%99s happening!

Would this not indicate maybe, thyroid problem? Or adrenal glad problem? Something that could be releasing the %E2%80%98panic%E2%80%99 chemical at random?

i had a blood test about 8 months ago and that showed very high cortisol levels and low-normal serotonin. does this help your diagnosis?

Brief Answer:
Get your Thyroid and serotonin level checked once again

Detailed Answer:
Dear friend. Thanks for the follow up. My reply was based on the assumption that you had medical check ups and is taking medicines, because you have these symptoms for more than 4 months. Here you opine that you did not have any such medical check ups. In that case I will request you to consult a doctor in person for complete physical check up and, of course, Thyroid function test and according to your age, blood pressure reading, blood sugar level etc. You are correct, that thyroid dysfunction can cause anxiety and panic symptoms.

Cortisol is a stress hormone released by the adrenal glands. It's important for helping your body deal with stressful situations, as your brain triggers its release in response to many different kinds of stress. However, when cortisol levels are too high for too long, this hormone can hurt you more than it helps. Over time, high levels may cause weight gain and high blood pressure, disrupt sleep, negatively impact mood, reduce your energy levels and contribute to diabetes.

With adequate serotonin levels in the brain and its proper functioning, you will be positive, happy, confident, flexible, and easygoing. With low levels of serotonin, you will begin to display serotonin deficiency symptoms by becoming negative, obsessive, worried, irritable, sleepless, or depressed.

Serotonin deficiency is thought to be associated with several psychological symptoms, such as:

anxiety
depressed mood
aggression
impulsive behavior
insomnia
irritability
low self-esteem
poor appetite
poor memory
eating disorders
obsessive-compulsive disorder
panic disorder
post-traumatic stress disorder
social anxiety disorder

With the above indication, it will be imperative for you to consult a psychiatrist and get your thyroid function and serotonin level checked once again and get the treatment accordingly.

Take care

Ok thank you.

I have been travelling so unable to see a doctor and get any help/medication for many weeks now. I return home in 2-3 weeks.

I will get thyroid, serotonin and cortisol tested.

I assume I will still be alive in 2-3 weeks!? This is not major serious problem?

Brief Answer:
Consult a doctor ASAP

Detailed Answer:
Dear friend. Please don't worry. You were experiencing these symptoms for weeks. Your low serotonin condition is also old. Nothing happened. Rather nothing will happen. But beware

Try to relax and try to be stress-free as much as possible. Worry and stress could make symptoms worse. But you will be safe.

Though these symptoms are not dangerous, I would advise to consult a doctor at the earliest.

Take care.
