default
Posted on Wed, 2 Nov 2016
Question: Lips have been looking funny for about a 1.5 days. I'm worried. Recent changes:

- I have been on antibiotics for 2 days because of a what the doctor said seemed like food poisoning
- I had a cold sore last week
- Barber trimmed mustache/upper lip yesterday

Im referring specifically to the white spots. That wasnt there before. Could there be an explanation? Also, is it safe to kiss someone? I have attached pictures

Brief Answer:
Fordyce spots

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for contacting HCM with your health care concerns.

You are concerned about some white spots that have you have noticed recently on the inside of your lips. The pictures you submitted show that you have Fordyce spots. These are sebaceous or oil producing glands under the skin. They are normal and nothing to be concerned about. They do not indication any disease or condition. You may noticed them more because of your recent use of antibiotics because the normal bacteria flora has decreased allowing for the spots to be more prominent.

Brief Answer:
Fordyce spots

Detailed Answer:
The Fordyce spots will be more prominent at different times. We don't know exactly why that it is but it is nothing to be worried about. They will probably reduce in appearance once you finish the antibiotics and your mouth bacteria flora returns to normal
