Question: I had a nephrectomy one year ago with removal of a large cancerous tumor on my right kidney. The tumor was about the size of a soccer ball. Since then I have gained 50 lbs, have edema off and on in my legs, a small rash on my stomach near the surgical site and have a whole lot of back pain. I originally was on lisinipril but was able to get off that a few months ago as my blood pressure is normal. I take no other medication other than a bactrim cream for the rash (helps but doesn't go away). I no longer have a gallbladder from a surgery years ago. All my CT Scans and ultrasound, blood tests and urine tests show nothing wrong. I also tested my thyroid and did a Cushings test. All normal. Nobody has any answers and I really feel like I have fallen through the cracks. I watch what I eat, I exercise 2-3 days a week, I have low stress at home. I am struggling to stay active but it is difficult. I only feel good maybe 2 days out of the week. Example: Walking a lot one day will make me inactive for a few days to recover. I realize it was a major surgery, but I am concerned about these side effects. The only thing I keep hearing from my doctors now is to consider weight loss surgery (no thank you, enough cutting on me), diet pills or deal with it. Any thoughts?

Could only having one kidney cause some sort of insulin resistance? My sugars are slightly elevated but still within normal ranges, just at the high end.
