What Causes Vomiting Up Of Bile And Severely Sore Palate?

default
Posted on Fri, 11 Dec 2015
Question: 5 days ago (very early Saturday morning) I threw up bile after having a few cocktails on an empty stomach the Friday night before. On Saturday day, the roof of mouth felt incredibly sore - almost bruised like. I tried to eat a salad with vinegar on it and it felt like knives were piercing the roof of my mouth. Sunday, Monday and Tuesday it continued to be sore (not raw, but sore)...yesterday, it looked yellowish/orangish. Today, Wednesday there is one small red dot. Should I be treated with an antibiotic?? Is this in infection. It's on the soft palate in the back of my mouth. Not the front.

Brief Answer:
Not infection, seems like chemical injury caused due to Biliary Reflux.

Detailed Answer:
Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gotten through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain it seems that due to bile reflux there can be chemical injury to the soft palate leading to inflammation causing soreness and bruising..
As it has now gradually improved and there is just one red dot it is a sign of healing and will completely resolve in a week..
If there is still some soreness present you can gargle with numbing mouthwash containing Lignocaine..
Do warm saline irrigation..
Suck ice and do cold water rinses..
Talk a soft diet and maintain a good Oral hygiene..

No need to take antibiotics as there is no apparent infection and you need not to worry about it..

today will be the 8th day of discomfort (it's Saturday, and it occurred last saturday). I kept hoping it would feel a little better, but my throat and roof of mouth are still sore and feel strange. your note said another week to heal - 14 days? I'm still worried it's a infection. what symptoms would require seeing a dentist?? should I wait another week? could this be another condition that just happened to come out the morning I had vomited? I vomited into a toilet - could I have picked something up from that?

Brief Answer:
You should consult an Otolaryngologist/ENT Expert..

Detailed Answer:
Hi..
Welcome Again..

As per your query if there is no improvement as of now then there is a possibility that you have got bacterial or viral throat infection and a confirmation can be done only after a clinical evaluation and investigations like Rapid Strep test [for bacterial infection] and Rapid mono test [for viral infection] to rule out the exact cause of the symptoms and treatment can be planned according to the diagnosis..
You should consult an ENT expert in this regard..

As of now for throat pain you can take Ibuprofen, continue doing warm saline gargles and suck throat lozenges..

In case if infection is suspected he/she will advise you to take antibiotics, anti-inflammatory painkiller like Ibuprofen, steam inhalations and chewing Vitamin C lozenges..

Any further queries are welcome..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
