What Causes Urticaria After Renal Surgery?

Question: Undergone Bileteral retrograde intra renal surgery with laster lithotrisy (RIRS for kidney stone removal) on 11-03-2017. Post surgery medication completed started itching from 26-03-2017.

Consulted Dermatologist, told that it is URTICARIA. Given 'montair LC' and 'atarax' as medication. As per his suggestion, given these tests. "IMMUNOGLOBULIN, Thyroid Profile, complete blood count, routine urinalysis, stool examination for ova and cysts, absolute eosinophil count and anti TPO levels". All these test results are normal.

After all these tests Dermatologist saying "it is most likely idiopathic without any cause or due to some medicines injected during the surgery".

Is this triggred because of surgery medication?
Is some infection still exists post RIRS?
Any issue with Kidney functioning?

Appreciate your help in this regard.

Urticaria is usually due to alergy to some medication .

Thanks for query .

Urticaria that you have developed after you have undergone surgery of bilateral RIRS for fragmentation of kidney stones is likely to be due to side effects of medication that were being given to you during surgery or immediate post operative period .However it is very difficult to predict which of these drugs is the cause for urticaria.

Residual infection in kidney will give rise to other symptoms like fever ,vomiting ,burning urination etc at the same time it is unlikely to be due to and damage or deranged in kidney function .

You can get this confirmed by doing Renal Function test .

Since all the relevant tests are normal you need not worry at all .

Take anti histamine and steroids like Betnosal for short period say 5 days .It should work for you and resolve the issue.

Thanks Doctor for your response to my question.

I do not have fever, vomiting, burning urination after surgery.

Now I am taking 'montair LC' and 'atarax' as suggested by Dermatologist. Will see for few more days with this. If problem still persists, I would take Betnosal. I think Betnosal won't have any side effects.
