Posted on Wed, 6 Jan 2016
Question: I had laproscopic anterior vaginal vault suspension surgery one week ago. The catheter was removed on the fourth day and I could not urinate so it was reinserted and removed today. I was able to urinate immediately after its removal. Now,8 hours later, I have an urge but seem unable to urinate. Do I need to go to the emergency room? YYYY@YYYY

Brief Answer:
Intermittent catheterization needed. Bladder training.

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for asking

I read your question and i understand your concern. With anterior vaginal vault and catheterization, urine retention is common sequelae and with advancing age this sequelae is almost inevitable. If its in retention for 8 hours, i would suggest a visit for ER for intermittent catheterization should be tried. meanwhile bladder exercises should be initiated to help regain bladder tone. It will be back to normal soon.

I hope it helps. Take good care of yourself and don't forget to close the discussion please.
