What Causes Upper Abdominal Pain And Vomiting?

default
Posted on Sat, 25 Feb 2017
Question: Hi. My husband is experiencing pain in the upper abdominal region that is not relieved by changing positions or malox, peppermint tea etc and has vomitted twice this morning. What's coming up is food he ate 10 or 11 hours ago. I'm concerned about a blockage of some sort. How long to wait before insisting on a trip to the doc?

Brief Answer:
If he passing stools or flatus then blockage unlikely

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thank you for posting your question on Healthcaremagic.

The symptoms you are describing looks like acute gastritis could just be due to inflammation of the stomach or infection. If he has passed stool or even flatus (gas), blockage is unlikely.
Meanwhile please start him.on Tab Pantoprazole 40mg daily half an hour before food and Tab Ondansetron 4mg twice a day before food.
Please let me know if he devolops any fever if he does we need to start him on antibiotics.
You could take him to the doctor if he vomits out the tablets also as that time he may need to be given injections.

Hope this helps
Best wishes
