Posted on Wed, 7 Sep 2016
Question: Have throbbing pain under right side of armpit, comes from underneath right breast, and goes around to shoulder blade. Have had this for over 4 months. Thought it was gall bladder but that was removed over 6 weeks ago. Also that area feels numb to touch.

Detailed Answer:
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

It is possible that the pain may be due to neuropathy especially with the history of numbness.
Neuropathy refers to abnormal function or structure of a nerve.

It can be temporary or permanent.

There are different possible causes such as: (1) diabetes
(2)trauma along the path of the nerve eg in the spine or after exiting this area
(3)vitamin b12 or folate deficiency
(4)liver or kidney disease
(5)side effect of medication
(6) exposure to toxins
(7)infections such as shingles
(8)neurological conditions such as stroke , ms
(9)idiopathic- in many cases, the cause cannot be found
(10) hormonal conditions such as thyroid disease

To determine the cause, your doctor may examine the area and confirm the decreased sensation.
An x ray of the ribs and upper/mid back , may be recommended.

Blood tests to check vitamin levels, liver and kidney function and screen for diabetes, thyroid disease, may also be suggested.

If the symptoms are very disturbing, there are medications that are used for neuropathy

I hope this helps, feel free to ask any other questions
