Question: Sudden onset of eyes half closed, poor coordination and balance, speech slurred and sometimes not sensible, mouth hangs open and drooling, instantly falls asleep, sleep apnea for a while, pulse strong and normal, happens in evenings while person is doing normal activities, only every couple of months. Person has poor sleep (sometimes sleep apnea) in general due to jerking limbs and often gets up during nights to avoid jerking. Takes meds for high blood pressure, jerking limbs (doesn't help much), and for cholesterol.

Brief Answer:
Atypical seizures/EEG

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for being on healthcaremagic.com.
I am Dr.Ajay Panwar,a neurologist, here to answer your query.

The scenario which you have described 'Sudden onset of eyes half closed, poor coordination and balance, speech slurred and sometimes not sensible, mouth hangs open and drooling, instantly falls asleep, sleep apnea for a while'- appears to be suggestive of seizure like activity. It may possible be an atypical seizure.

An EEG and a MRI of brain will be of help,in diagnosis.Further, blood work including sugar, electrolytes, calcium, kidney and liver function tests should be done.

Hope that helps.I shall be glad to have you in follow-up with further questions.

Regards
Dr.Ajay Panwar,
MD,DM(Neurology)
