What Causes Swollen Painful Lymph Nodes On The Back Of My Neck And Head?

default
Posted on Mon, 7 Apr 2014
Question: Hi. Two days ago, I woke up with swollen lymph nodes on the back of my neck and head, on the left side. My head hurt when touched, but I didn't really feel any other symptoms, just a mild feeling of being unwell. Today, I woke up and the lymph nodes on my right side were swollen and the pain had spread to that side as well. I don't seem to have any other symptoms, just the mild unwell feeling and the swollen lymph nodes.

Brief Answer: Too early to diagnose, Needs work up Detailed Answer: Thank you for asking Miss XXXX! I read your query and i would like to answer it. Miss XXXXXXX swollen and tender to touch cervical area indicate many possibilities . Could be some lymph node infection like lymphadenitis or an ear involvement like mastoiditis resulting in some abscess.could be parotid gland infection. Any oral pathology from simple sore throat can also cause that. But head tender to touch and neck region nodal involvement needs a complete otorhinolaryngological exam and a detailed history.Your past history is not significant for this. To sort out completely it needs an examination and some work up both radiological and histopathological.. Too early to diagnose. But one thing is for sure, painful lymphadenopathy is a good thing, it rules out some malignancy options like lymphoma where the pain is not present. I hope it helped. Take good care and consult the otorhinolaryngologist nearby. May the odds be ever in your favour. S Khan
