What Causes Swelling In The Lip After Taking Amoxicillin Clavulanate?

default
Posted on Mon, 29 May 2017
Question: I got Amoxicillin/k clav prescribed to me this morning for a sinus infection. I took at 9am. Around 3pm I started getting a swollen lip, pretty bad one, shortly after I had a Reese's PB cup and Diet Coke. Would it take that many hours for an allergic reaction to show up to this medication? I have taken it before and not had a problem.

Brief Answer:
Alergic reaction

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thank you for asking in HCM

I can understand your concern

Yes this is an alergic reaction probably due to antibiotics you are taking.

It might happen that during the course of treatment with antibiotics ,to have alergic reaction not since in the first day.I have had a patient in my clinical practice who had this kind of reaction in the last day of treatment.
However don't worry, i recommend you to stop this treatment and to discuss with your doctor about this as soon as possible. Probably he will prescribe another class of antibiotics (like Clacid)

Meanwhile you can take antihistamines medications (like Xyzal orally once) for some days.

If the situation gets worse better to get medical help in ER.

Keep monitoring the general condition of yours

Be careful to avoid Amoxiklav use other times

Take care and feel free to ask me again
