What Causes Sudden Muscle Contractions In Chest Especially After A Heavy Exercise?

default
Posted on Sat, 9 Jan 2016
Question: Sir,
I have been experiencing the following problem for 3-4 years.
1.     Feeling of sudden contraction on the right side of the chest for fractions of seconds and gets over without realizing what exactly happens.
2.     This happens just after I speak in high volume, just after I finished a heavy exercise or while getting anxious.

It does not happen every time I do the above the frequency is once or twice in a month.

It does not happen while speaking or exercise, it happens just after that and last for a second or so.

3.     I go for medical checkup every year and explained this and the x-ray of chest, ECG, Renal function etc was also done last month and all came out without any defect.
4.     Doctors said that it is something called spasm as the vocal cord or lungs are strained and no medicines were prescribed.
5.     Sometimes I get very worried when I experience the same and when I worry I feel a bit contraction on the right chest.

I do my regular work, exercise such as brisk walk, yoga etc without this trouble.
I also observed that this happens towards evening time 5.pm -7pm etc.

Could you suggest what exactly is this problem and how to overcome
Best regards.

Thanks for consulting us.

I gone through your query in detail.

First of all I Clarify you that your problem is not an abnormal or a disease condition.
most of the people experience your problem. even i too.

as muscles are innervated by nerve fibers. nerve fibers are mediator between muscle and brain. muscle can express in a way of pain, twitch, spasm for their demand and response to the stimuli. sometimes it is significant and at times non significant medically.

human have two general types of skeletal muscle fibers: slow-twitch (type I) and fast-twitch (type II). Slow-twitch muscles help enable long-endurance feats such as distance running, while fast-twitch muscles fatigue faster but are used in powerful bursts of movements like sprinting, strenuous exercise etc.

occasional pain for a second during or after exercise or even without doing any physical activity is considered to be a physiological one. no abnormality behind it.

mostly you get the pain in evening time tends to be muscle tiredness.
every individual you works from morning usually get a tiredness, discomfort etc.

At this point i strongly advise unless you get pain constantly in a particular region, effecting your day today routine for more than a week continuously and systemic problems along with the pain then you need a physician opinion to treat. otherwise no need for any medical consultation. it is physiological reaction in your body.

Hope i answered your query. Kindly get back to me for any assistance.

Dear Sir,
I am highly relieved by your mail and thank you for that.
I just need to know if i can continue to do my exercise such as jogging and yoga etc despite getting spasm.
Also what could be the indication at which we should stop doing exercise for more than required time.
Nevertheless, your mail had been highly empathetic and most useful and i wish to remember your advise when i get it to anxiety mode.
Best Regards

Thanks for your reply.
You can continue your routine jogging, exercise and yoga etc.

If any of your action like exercise or yoga (any posture) gives you discomfort or induces pain on active mode (while performing) consistently then you should stop doing that action (exercise or yoga).
Get an opinion from your trainer and then follow it as per their recommendation.

Sometimes for people who do regular exercise and yoga may also experience spasm, muscle catch, tiring etc occasionally. It will settle on its own for resting for two or three days.
Physical tear and injuries are common in exercise and jogging etc. if it happens treat it appropriately with doctor advice.
Stay healthy
