Question: Hi, i wonder if you can help
Over the past month + i've been spitting up blood mid way during my sleep. Its mixed in with my phlegm and usually a small amount, my phlegm is usually brown in colour. This only happens once a night and apart from this Ive been feeling dizzy over the past week. I"m not coughing and dont feel short of breath (at least i dont think so). Generally i'm fine apart from these two things and regularly take exercise, dont smoke and eat healthily. I have booked myself in for a doctors appointment but wonder if you can help?. thanks, Mr XXXX

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Welcome to Health Care Magic.

Thanks for writing.

I am Dr.Muhammad Ahmad. I have read your question completely, i understand your concern and will try to help you in best way possible.

First of all I would like to mention here is that the problem you mentioned about does not seem to me as a serious problem. You don't have to get much anvious about it and i am pretty positive that this thing can be dealt with, quite easily by taking simple measures.

It can happen due to two reasons.

1) A lesion in mouth,
This can be a gum bleed or any ulcer or something.

2) Blood can come from your stomach,

it can be Due to any small ulcer in the stomach, this was the possibility i was thinking of while reading your question and when you mentioned about hiatus hernia my suspicion got stronger.

It's great to know that you are leading a healthy life style and there is no other issue with you, wether you are overweight or not hiatus hernia can cause problems, yes obese people usually face more problems but lean people can face issues too.

As you are already using lansoprazole I believe a prokinetic like motillium can help your symptoms big time, I would suggest you to discuss this with your doctor.

I would advise you to avoid fizzy drinks, caffeine etc which might disturb your stomach and increase sromach acid. Things are expected to settle down with minor medication and life style changes

I hope this answered your question, a
if you have more please feel free to ask.

Regrads.

ok thanks for your response. I've also been concerned with my dizzyness over the past week and reading the information on Lansoprazole i read that this can be a side effect of this medication, so for the time being i've stopped taking it. Do you agree with this decision?. Its starting to affect my work as ive been feeling really dizzy in the office and walking into work. What do you recommend?. thanks XXXX

Brief Answer:
There are a few things to consider regarding dizziness

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Mr XXXXXXX thanks for writing back,,
You have stopped taking lansoprazole this will let you rule out side effect of the pill and if your start feeling better after 4..5 days of leaving the pill then it will mean that pill was causing it otherwise you can restart it.

Mean while you can use Syrup Gavisvon for stomach protection.
Lethargy can be because of many other reasons.
1) Loss of sleep.
2) Mental stress.
3) Tired physically.
4) Any med like beta blocker etc.
5) Any thing like alcohol or something which can cause you to get tired.

There are many reasons of lethargy first try to correct those which are expected to improve your work quality like give more time to sleep start some activity which freshens you. Try to take some time out of stresses of life. I believe these things can help you big time.

Regards.
