What Causes Small Lump In Pelvic Area?

default
Posted on Sat, 18 Apr 2015
Question: i have a long, thin (green bean sized) lump under the skin on the right side of my pelvic area. It is almost in the groin area, but more in the pelvic area above the labia majora. I just noticed it on Saturday and it does not have broken skin, a head or discoloration. I do not know if it is a swollen lymph node or not, it may be too low for that. It is not very visible but feels hard. I am 35 years old and currently breastfeeding. Please let me know if this could be cancerous, or a swollen lymph node, or something else.

Details required

Detailed Answer:
Hi

I understand your concerns.

I need few more details :

1. When was your delivery?

2. It was normal vaginal delivery or operative delivery?

3. This lump disappears on pressing ?

4. Does it increase in size if you keep a finger on lump and cough. Try it and let me know.

5. Does lump reduce when you lie down and increase on standing ?

Let me know more details so that I can give you detailed reply.

Brief Answer:
This is not cancer

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

This could be possibly a resolving pad of fat which was acquired during pregnancy. The initial explanation you gave seemed to be inguinal hernia. But looking at your answers to my questions, it does not appear to be inguinal hernia.

I dont think it is cancerous or it is lymph node swelling also. It seems more like a pad of resolving fat.

I suggest you measure it now and check it at the interval of every 15 days. It should disappear by next 2 to 3 months.

Meanwhile book an appointment with your doctor and get it examined as examination makes a lot of difference than explanation in words.

This is not cancer for sure. Dont worry about it.

Thank you!

How would I know if it was a lymph node / cancer, for future reference? I have been nervous about this since Saturday when it appeared. It was not there before Saturday.

Also, is there anything I could do to help it go away?

Brief Answer:
It will disappear

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

If it were to be cancer or lymph node, it would have appeared slowly over time. Not all of a sudden.

You dont have to do anything actively to go away. It will go away slowly by itself.
In the future just a physical examination by a physician will tell if it is growing and if it is lymph node or not. But don't worry it will go.
