default
Posted on Mon, 14 Sep 2015
Question: I've had a throbbing pain on the lower right side of my abdomen for the last two years and it's getting worse. It coincides with the monthly. However, this time is different as I have become very weak and the the pain hasn't subsided even as my period is beginning to end. The pain is becoming worse and I'm becoming very weak.

Brief Answer:
Probably due to endometriosis or pelvic adhesions.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

I am Dr Ramadevi Wani. I will be answering your concerns today.

Are you sexually active? Did you suffer from pelvic infection before?
Have you had any surgeries before?

The pain which coincides with your periods may be due to endometriosis. Second common cause for such pain is adhesions secondary to pelvic inflammatory disease.

In this context, I will recommend you consult Gynecologist soon. As I don't have an opportunity to examine you, I will recommend you get internal examination and ultrasound done. Alternatively, your gynecologist could prescribe oral contraceptive pills. Pain due to endometriosis reduces with contraceptive pills.

If no cause is detected by examination and ultrasound/MRI you may need diagnostic laparoscopy to look into the abdomen.

In a nutshell, I am slightly concerned with this problem. I will recommend you visiting a gynecologist and ultrasound scan.

I hope this helps.
If you have further concerns, I will be happy to answer.
Best wishes,
Dr Rama
