What Causes Reddish Vaginal Bleeding After A C-section?
Question: Hi there,
I had a c section on 10/3 where my bladder was nicked due to adhesions from a prior C/s. I had a catheter in and have been doing okay since it was removed at 10d postpartum.
My issue is with my bleeding. My bleeding has been light since I had the c section. It has remained red, only getting a bit reddish brown but then will return to a darker red color. This is not enough blood to soak a pad and usually only is noticeable when I wipe. However, yesterday I noticed a small grayish tissue clot and my bleeding increased small amount. Today I had another small gray clot pass and then a little while later I had a cluster of string like red clots. I am concerned that maybe I shouldn’t be having clots at this point? Is this normal? I am not soaking pads by any means, but the blood is still dark red.

I feel your bladder XXXXXXX has been diligently managed conservatively with bladder Cather in situ for 10 days and if the urine was clear before the catheter was removed, then likely that the XXXXXXX had healed well.
The darkish brown bleed per uterus from the cervical os is lochia and is ideally expected to last for 3-4 weeks. The occasional passage of blood clots from uterus is normal as remaining endometrium would be she'd off completely and also most importantly breast feeding plays an important role in controlling the lochia bleed. So breast feeding should be diligently practiced.
