What Causes Red Rashes On The Body While On Augmentin?

Question: Hello Dr

my daughter is 2.8 yrs old she had fever for 2 3 days we given her paracetamol and Syr Augmentin as per local doctor
there is no fever from 2 days but there are small red rashes all over body

there is nothing other symptoms right now

Hi.... By what you quote and after seeing the images I feel that it could be an allergy to antibiotic Augmentin or a simple skin allergy.

1. How is the activity of the kid when the fever touches normal?

2. What is the maximum temperature noted?

3. Apart from fever what other symptoms are there like - pain or burning sensation during urination/ vomiting/ loose stools/ sever body pains/ sore throat etc?

4. Is any other family member suffering from fever along with her?

5. Was a blood culture done before starting antibiotic?

6. If there are any blood or urine tests done - can you upload the images?

Hello Dr
1. she is normal playing as regular eating properly
2. Maximum temperature noted was 101
3
. Apart from fever there was soar throat and some runing nose
4. no other member was suffering from any symptoms
5. No blood culture or any blood test done
6. no any blood or urine test was done
7. rashes now getting disappear very less are remaining

Looks like viral illness - dont worry - no antibiotics

Detailed Answer:
Hi... Fever of few days without any localizing signs could as well a viral illness. Usually rather than fever, what is more important is the activity of the child, in between 2 fever episodes on the same day. If the kid is active and playing around when there is no fever, it is probably viral illness and it doesn't require antibiotics at all. Once viral fever comes it will there for 4-7 days. So do not worry about duration if the kid is active.
Paracetamol can be given in the dose of 15mg/kg/dose (maximum ceiling dose of 500mg) every 4-6th hourly that too only if fever is more than 100F. I suggest not using combination medicines for fever, especially with Paracetamol.
