What Causes Red Itchy Bumps On Mons Pubis?

default
Posted on Sat, 8 Nov 2014
Question: Hi I have bumps on my mons pubis that are red and itchy. I have not been sexually active for 4 months. I have applied antibiotic ointment and monistat cream. It has been about a week and no change other than other pimple like bumps. It started as an ingrown hair and little bumps formed around it. I just started to take a pack of Azythromycin. I'm not sure what else to do and I do not have insurance to see a physician.

Brief Answer:
Details below.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for trusting us with your health concern.
These bumps are basically sebaceous cysts or blocked glands like we have pimples on face.
These will go by itself and new ones can form and the cycle can go on for some time.
They are usually seen in patients who wear tight underclothes or jeans for a long time.
More common in Summers.
Just try to keep your genital area open or in loose clothes for some time each day and drink lots of water.
You can also apply 1% hydrocortisone ointment available over the counter on them for relief.
Please feel free to discuss further. I will be glad to answer the follow up queries that you have.
Wishing you good health.
Regards.

Usually such rashes subside in a week or 10 days. In case the rashes are persistent or a painful then do consult a physician for stronger prescription medicines.
