What Causes Persistent Anxiety Despite Taking Celexa?
Fluoxetine is better choice than Celexa
Detailed Answer:
Hello thanks for asking from healthcaremgaic.com
I can understand your concern. Coming directly on your doubts-
You are on Celexa since last 9 weeks and there is not much improvement. You are taking 40 mg dose which is an adequate dose of drug for last 3 weeks and there is not much improvement. Anxiety is still persisting and agoraphobic symptoms are there. In that case I'd recommend you to go on Fluoxetine again.
Since Fluoxetine has worked in past and controlled your symptoms effectively so better to move on this drug again rather than taking a mixture of many medicines.
Yes for immediate relief of anxiety and depression symptoms low dose Risperidone or Olanzapine can be added. This will help to augment the effect of Fluoxetine.
You can talk with your psychiatrist for this change and you will definitely feel better.
Low dose benzodiazepines like Xanax or Klonopin could be added to be taken on SOS basis and this will help in relief of anxiety exacerbations.
Thanks and Take care
Yes cross tapering will be needed
Detailed Answer:
Hello again
Yes I suggest to cross taper the drugs which will prevent any withdrawal.
You can go to Celexa 30 for a couple of weeks and then Celexa 20 with Fluoxetine for about a week followed by Celexa 10 and Fluoxetine 40 if needed for one more week. After that you can stop the Celexa completely and continue to take Fluoxetine 40 mg till you feel better.
Once your anxiety is controlled totally then the dose can be reduced again to 20 mg.
Thanks.
Dose equivalence of Fluoxetine to Celexa
Detailed Answer:
Hello again
There is no clear cut comparison for these drugs but roughly 20 mg of Fluoxetine is equal to 20 mg of Celexa. Higher limit of Celexa for depression is 40 mg while fluoxetine can be used to 60-80 mg.
Thanks
Fluoxetine 20 at Celexa 20
Detailed Answer:
Hello again
Ok, I couldn't understand that.
Take Fluoxetine 20 at Celexa 20 mg. Then Fluoxetine 40 and Celexa 10.
I hope this clears the doubt.
Thanks
