What Causes Pain In The Elbows?

default
Posted on Thu, 7 Sep 2017
Question: Hi, since my early teens I've had an issue with my knees locking up, usually while I am sitting cross legged. I have attempted to talk to several GP's but all of them have just stared at me with a blank face as if to say I am crazy. My elbows lock up also but it doesn't hurt when I pop them back out, but it seems that when I try and unlock my knees when it pops I become filled with agonising pain, each time worse than the last. I haven't had it happen in the last year and a half, but the last time it happened I was limping for over 3 days because of the pain being overwhelming. Am I really just going bonkers or could it actually be something that my GP's just won't know?

Brief Answer:
Could be discoid meniscus / snapping tendons.

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX I am Dr Gopal Goel Orthopedic Surgeon.
In my opinion you have a genuine problem . There is a condition called Discoid meniscus which behaves exactly as you have described . It locks and unlocks and gives rise to clicking sound and sometimes it could be torn . It could be a case of snapping tendons also. I suggest you get MRI of Knees to confirm the diagnosis of Discoid meniscus.
The treatment would depend on exact diagnosis. Surgery is required for discoid meniscus while non surgical treatment is generally sufficient for snapping tendons.
Elbow is most likely snapping elbow- not much is known about it.
Thanx for the question . Please feel free to ask any other question.
