Brief Answer:
Rib nerve irritation can be the reason.

Detailed Answer:
Hello!

Thank you for the query.

Is is sharp or dull pain?

Most likely the reason of your pain is rib nerve irritation (so called costochondirits). The reason of this condition can be spine disc compression, injury, pulled muscle however in most of the cases the reason remain unknown.
Very characteristic for this condition is the pain aggravation when breathing (moving the chest). Hot bath, painkillers (like Ibuprofen) usually do decrease the pain.

I suggest you to consult orthopedist. Spine MRI should be done to rule out spine issues. Physical therapy very often gives relief.

Hope this helps. Feel free to ask further questions.
Regards.
