What Causes Nausea, Hotness In Head And Headache When Lying On Back?

default
Posted on Fri, 19 Dec 2014
Question: My name is XXXXXXX I am 73 and in general good health. However, I have a problem when working under a car lying flat on the ground with no head elevation. Within minutes I feel nauseous, feel hot in the head, develop a headache and have sometimes vomited. There is no dizziness. This only happens when my body is in a prone position. The symptoms can last all day and then they eventually go away. An ECG and blood tests have all been OK. Blood pressure is good but rises a little when I'm lying flat on the ground. Sleeping with a pillow is no problem and I'm baffled as to what my problem might be. Hope you can help me.

Brief Answer:
sounds like carotid disease

Detailed Answer:
Hi, I am Dr Mittal.
I have read your query.
I think I would be able to help you .

The symptoms of the query are quite suggestive of carotid disease. Carotid arteries are present in the neck .They regulate the pressure that goes into the brain. The symptoms that you have mentioned are suggesting that the carotid arteries may be diseased and are directly communicating the pressure to the brain.

I would suggest that you use a thin pillow or pillow like structure on your slide board so that the pressure is artificially obstructed by the neck bending over the pillow.

I would suggest that you have tests - MRI Of brain and spine and a carotid doppler. I think if you discuss this with your doctor, it would be of help.

I have tried to make it as simple as possible. I hope that the information helps you. Please feel free to contact us for more information. Best of luck.
