What Causes Losing Balance When I Close My Eyes?

default
Posted on Sat, 26 Apr 2014
Question: I had a VNG last month and it was abnormal. They sent me for a MRI with and without contrast which came back as normal. They indicated that the problem is not the ear but rather a possible CNS lesion in the cerebellar region of the brain. When i close my eyes I totally lose my balance and when I march in place and close my eyes I get the sensation that i am still marching in place but when I open up my eyes and and i am facing in a totally different direction. i have a family history of MS and I will be meeting with my neurologist later this month. What is going on? I even lose my balance when bending over with my eyes open.

Brief Answer: Peripheral vertigo Detailed Answer: Dear I am sorry for the symptoms you are suffering. As your MRI is normal, you should not be very worried. It seems that you are suffering late complications of diabetes. The symptoms you described are those of peripheral vertigo caused by diabetic poly neuropathy. It is not XXXXXXX it is provoked by dark places and closing the eyes. I think your neurologist with confirm that. He might order investigations to understand your blood sugar control, electrolytes and other metabolities before arriving at this diagnosis. Discuss about this possibility when you get to consult them. Wish you all the best Dr Eris Ranxha neurologist
