What Causes Left Scapular Pain And Tingling In Left Arm?

default
Posted on Wed, 23 Jul 2014
Question: I started having left scapular pain a month or so ago. I then fairly suddenly started having tingling down my left arm and terrible nerve type pain. Nothing relieves the pain except lying down and getting into a comfortable position. When I wake up in the morning, my middle and ring fingers are very painful, curled and difficult to open them up. I pretty much have to uncurl them with my other hand. I have a history of neck problems and shoulder problems. I had an MRI of my neck and the radiologist said he saw nothing that would cause my symptoms. My last shoulder surgery I was told that my next surgery would be a shoulder replacement. I have an appointment next week with my ortho doc to see if my shoulder is causing this horrible pain in my left arm. Cardiac causes have been ruled out. I am curious as to what could be causing this. I had to reschedule my ortho appt because my husband got sick. I'm a nurse but not working as a nurse currently and have never seen symptoms quite like these. I have had terrible pain at the "funny" bone and is extremely painful to touch and creates muscle spasms under my scapula at times. The pain seems to be originating in the shoulder area. Travels down the nerve under my upper arm, then to the funny bone, then to the medial aspect of my forearm and into my fingers, mostly middle, ring and pinkie fingers. Some pain in upper right chest I think muscular in response to the other pain and in my left back rib area, again I'm pretty sure is muscular in response to the other pain.

Brief Answer:
Due to nerve copression or stretching.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
The pain that you have described is likely to be due to a nerve irritation or compression. It can happen at the level of shoulder also. It is good that any herniated discs have been ruled out already.
A nerve conduction study will help in proper diagnosis. You can get medicines like pregabalin or gabapentin and methylcobalamin supplements prescribed from your orthopedician after a direct examination.
Hot fomentation improvisation of the body posture physiotherapy exercises TENS therapy etc can also help in bringing symptomatic relief.
I hope this answers your query.
In case you have additional questions or doubts, you can forward them to me, and I shall be glad to help you out.
Wishing you good health.
