What Causes Knee Pain Post Surgery For Meniscus Tear?

default
Posted on Fri, 17 Jun 2016
Question: My daughter is 15 1/2 years old and had a meniscus tear in her right knee which was fixed with surgery. After she was released from the doctor's care both of her knees started hurting again. They did X-rays, which they could not see anything, and they did an MRI on both knees and did not see anything. He gave her an injection in both knees which helped slightly for about 1 1/2 months. After that, the pain came back with a vengeance. We just saw the doctor again, and he wanted her to start physical therapy again, because he said her ham strings were so tight from not doing anything and that it was probably causing the pain. We start physical therapy tomorrow and she is dreading it. He also prescribed her a Diclofenac topical and Lido-Prilo Cream for pain. We put the first dose on her today and she did not feel any relief with this. What should we do?

Brief Answer:
Oral muscle relaxants can help.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
The pain that she has can be from tight hamstrings or the muscle spasm. This can be relieved with a hot compress, topical muscle relaxant gels and in case the pain is persistent then do get some oral muscle relaxants prescribed. Gradual physical therapy is the only way to stretch the muscles and regain the lost strength.
Do continue with the physical therapy for a long term relief.
I hope this answers your query.
