What Causes Itching On Body?

default
Posted on Mon, 16 Feb 2015
Question: My wife recently had blood tests to help understand why she feels ichy most of the time. We thought it might be an alergic reaction.
The only abnormal results are:
Bilirubin <0.1 vs. 0.2 -1.0 normal
Thyroid Peroxidase Antibody 73 vs. <35 normal
This seems to have something to do with a hypothyroid condition and not an alergic reaction.
Her Dr. has not returned her calls to explain the results and I would like to know what I can do to calm her down.

Thank you for any information

Brief Answer:
Positive thyroid peroxidase antibody may indicate thyroiditis.

Detailed Answer:
Hello

Positive thyroid peroxidase antibody may indicate thyroiditis and it may lead to hypothyroidism.
Your wife need clinical correlation and she may need free T4 & TSH estimation. It will rule out hypothyroidism. If necessary, thyroid ultrasound and thyroid scan cane be done.

Bilirubuin level is acceptable.

Itching may be due to many reasons.Allergy is one of the reason for itching.Empirically she can be prescribed anti-histaminics.
If itching is persistent then she may need dermatologist opinion.
