Question: I had a full knee replacement 3 months ago and have since suffered very itchy and red shin on that leg. Why?

Hello,

I have studied your case and it is very common problem after knee surgery. Most common cause of this problem is blood getting collected under the skin. This causes discoloration and itching sensation.

I would suggest you to apply hot water and heparin containing ointment over leg. Do not rub it but apply it gently. You need to check blood coagulation profile if there is increase in swelling. Some time when blood is not getting clotted timely then such symptoms can occur. It is common in patients who are taking DVT medicines, Heart or BP medicines.
