What Causes Itching And Redness In Groin Area After Unprotected Sex?

default
Posted on Thu, 8 May 2014
Question: A few weeks ago, I had unprotected sex with a woman. A few days later, I got a couple shiny pink spots on my penis. They went away in about a week. Since then I have an itching and redness in my groin area where the groin and thigh meet on both sides. Also my perianal area is red and itchy. And now it seems like my armpits are starting to itch, and one of them has a little irritation on it. Any ideas what this could be?

The date of the unprotected sex was March 20th. I do know the woman, but not very well. I don't know her std status. I haven't notices any other symptoms, occasionally I get chills, but I haven't had a fever. How would I treat this? Also, sometimes my penis gets itchy and red. I think I had something like thid once before, and It seemed I was allergic to the baby wipes I was using. So I stopped using them, and found a different brand that has not caused me any problems. Could it be that I am now allergic to the new baby wipes? and would that involve the armpits?

Brief Answer: Intertrigo; maintain good hygiene Detailed Answer: Hello, Thanks for the follow up and sending important details. After analyzing the complete situation with diligence let me reassure you again that none of your symptoms are related to any kind of Sexually Transmitted Diseases. As suggested previously, the condition is intertrigo. It is a mild to moderate inflammation due to mixed infection at the body fold areas. As per your observation it can be due to baby wipes. The baby wipes can contain allergens which can be the initiating factor for the same. So over all you should not be worried about this simple condition. I am providing you certain suggestions for the betterment which are applicable for the condition: - Keep your self away from hot and humid climate. - Take two times bath. - Wear cotton clothes and cotton undergarments to be changed two times a day. Do not wear any synthetic or tight garments. - Do cold compression or warm water compresses according to the weather condition. - Do not sit continuously for long hours. Do all the measures to prevent sweating at this area. -If I were your treating dermatologist then would have suggested to apply a mixed cream containing fluticaosone with anti-fungal creams such as "Sertaconazole" or "clotrimazole " for 2 weeks and then shifted to plane anti-fungal cream to maintain the good effect for next 2 weeks. -I would have preferred to give an oral anti histamine like loratadine two times a day if there is moderate to severe itching is present. -Don't try to scratch or rub the area as can lead to further aggravation of the problem. - You can use any good antiperspirant powders daily to avoid future infection. - Reduce your weight if it is on higher side for future recurrence. You can follow the above regimen for 10-14 days. You need to prevent all the above conditions of moistness or humidity to prevent fungal and bacterial growth. Do not use any kind of baby wipes for sometime and just try to maintain hygiene by simple measure. Do not forget to use protection in form of condoms for best safety against any Sexually Transmitted infection. I hope these information's will help you. If you have further queries I will be happy to help. "Wish you good health and early recovery from the problem" Regards, Dr Sanjay Kumar Kanodia (MD- Dermatology & Sexually Transmitted Diseases)
