Brief Answer:
probably soft tissue injury

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Since you're having intermittent only pain, it's very likely that you don't have any fractures, which would complicate your condition. If your breathing movements are painful then this would raise suspicion for various kinds of problems like rib fracture, pneumothorax, etc. In such a case a chest X-ray would be required to determine the cause.

Otherwise time will heal the soft tissue injury. Hematomas may take many days to be absorbed and they cause pain in the meantime.

So in conclusion, your case sounds like a soft tissue injury which needs time to heal. Please remember though that this discussion cannot substitute clinical examination! If any of the aforementioned descriptions fit your case or your symptom is preventing you from carrying out regular daily activities then you should have it checked by a doctor.
