What Causes High Heart Rate And Nausea While Playing Soccer?

Question: Hi, When I play soccer my heart rate beats very fast then i feel like i am about to throw up i am not obese and skinny why is that.


I visit the gym twice a week (Saturday and Sunday), I do running on the hill treadmill for 1 hour a day

Regarding your concern, I would like to explain that facing your very young age, your maximal normal theoretical heart rate response during maximal aerobic exertion may reach up to around 200 bpm.

So, you don't have to worry about that heart rate during physical exertion, as it is a normal physiological heart condition.

Nevertheless, if your palpitation feeling is associated with other complains like dizziness, extreme fatigue, nausea, etc. then, I would recommend you to calm down for a while with your extreme physical training program.

You are very young for that kind of prolonged (1 hour a day) strenuous exertion, as it may lead you to excessive exhaustion, profound body fluid loss through diaphoresis (increased sweating) and respiration and may lead you to blood electrolytes imbalances and consequently dangerous cardiac arrhythmias.

I recommend you before undertaking similar fitness programs, to perform a medical check up: a careful physical exam, a resting ECG, chest X ray study, and several blood tests, like complete blood count (to exclude a possible anemia), fasting glucose, thyroid hormone levels, blood electrolytes, liver and renal function tests, etc.

If suspicions about possible arrhythmia are raised, an ambulatory ECG monitoring test (Holter) is necessary to clarify this issue.

At the end, I would advise you to continue your physical training under close supervision of a well certified expert.

I dont have a training program. I only do treadmill and bike to get better stamina but that is not the case. I played soccer yesterday and as soon as I started running fast my heart started to beat very fast and i threw up. Normally when I run during soccer I feel like I am about to throw up.

I notice, I forgot to give information on the doctor bit, I went to a doctor few months ago everything is normal with me. I had this problem even when I did not do this training sometimes I did 30 mins of cardio with sets and reps and when I came to play soccer I had this problem.

At the end, if everything results normal, then the only advice is to avoid playing that stressful sport for you.
